Internet Mental Health Quality Of Life Scale showing best indicators of recovery/relapse

For the sake of brevity, individuals with moderate/severe schizophrenia in this study will be referred to as individuals with "active" schizophrenia. Likewise, individuals with mild/in remission schizophrenia will be referred to as individuals with "inactive" schizophrenia.

The above figure shows that, in both the active and inactive group, 71% of the patients remained single. The inactive group was older, and less disabled. However, even in the inactive group, 27% of the patients were disabled by their schizophrenia.

The red bars in the above figure show which items of the 78-item Internet Mental Health Quality of Life Scale statistically differentiated the active group from the inactive group. The height of the red bar shows the effect size. The higher the red bar, the better the item statistically differentiated between the two groups. The yellow bars denoted that the items did not statistically differentiate between the two groups.

This figure also shows that in this study schizophrenia mainly caused: social impairment, occupational impairment, reality distortion (psychosis), cognitive impairment, lack of insight, poor overall psychosocial functioning, schizoid behavior, and paranoid behavior. This symptom profile is very different from all other mental disorders (except for neurocognitive disorders, and drug-induced psychoses).
