Key Bernard
LCSW, JD • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
About
Therapy should be a nonlinear process where BIPOC and queer individuals gain the necessary understanding of self and the foundation to live authentically. This philosophy forms the cornerstone of Key Bernard's approach as a licensed clinical social worker and therapist at San Francisco Therapy Collective.
As a queer, BIPOC, nonbinary therapist, Key brings a unique perspective to their practice, firmly believing in the collective ability to transform communities. Their interest lies in working with individuals who identify as BIPOC and anyone seeking to explore or ground their heart space. Key's approach recognizes that therapy for marginalized communities should exist outside of traditional norms, embracing the complexities of intersectional identities.
Key's educational background is as diverse as their approach to therapy. They received their Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work from Arizona State University, providing a strong foundation in social work principles. Additionally, Key holds a Juris Doctor from Barry University, bringing a unique legal perspective to their therapeutic practice. This combination of social work and legal education informs their holistic approach to client care.
As a trained DBT therapist, Key utilizes multiple frameworks rooted in trauma healing. Their professional journey has solidified their belief that therapy should be tailored to the cultural needs of their clients, moving beyond conventional therapeutic models. This approach allows Key to create a safe and inclusive space where clients can explore their identities, experiences, and challenges without judgment.
Key's practice at San Francisco Therapy Collective reflects their commitment to fostering an inclusive village that can change the narratives impacting individual experiences within and outside of the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. By bringing their whole self to their practice, including their identities as a queer, BIPOC, and nonbinary individual, Key offers clients a uniquely empathetic and insightful therapeutic experience.
