Amy Schere
LCSWA • Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate
About
Amy Schere, LCSWA, brings a unique blend of physical therapy expertise and psychotherapy to her practice, offering clients a holistic approach that addresses both mind and body. With a background as a healthcare provider, Amy understands the intricate connection between mental and physical well-being, which informs her client-centered and inclusive therapeutic style.
Amy's journey into psychotherapy began after a decade of working as a physical therapist in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This experience sparked her interest in the mind-body connection and led her to pursue a Master of Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill. Her diverse educational background, which includes a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Columbia University and a BA in Psychology from Cornell University, provides her with a comprehensive understanding of human health and behavior.
Specializing in anxiety, depression, chronic pain, eating disorders, and trauma-related issues, Amy employs a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches. She is trained in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure & Response Prevention for OCD, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This diverse toolkit allows her to tailor treatment to each client's unique needs.
Amy's approach is rooted in anti-oppressive, body-positive, and Health at Every Size principles. She is particularly passionate about working with clients experiencing chronic pain or other physical symptoms, using a mind-body approach. Her recent completion of a 6-month training course in IFS practice, also known as "parts work," has further enhanced her ability to help clients explore their inner world and promote healing.
In therapy sessions with Amy, clients can expect a warm, empathetic environment where their unique stories are heard and validated. Whether addressing anxiety, mood disorders, chronic pain, disordered eating, trauma, or perinatal mood disorders, Amy's goal is to empower clients to make the changes they desire. Her holistic approach ensures that both mental and physical aspects of well-being are considered, providing a comprehensive path to healing and personal growth.
