With a warm and approachable demeanor, Dr. Caitlin Villa brings a unique blend of evidence-based treatments and cultural sensitivity to her work with children, teens, and families. As a Post-Doctoral Resident in Psychology, Dr. Villa specializes in addressing anxiety, navigating life transitions, and providing parenting support.
Dr. Villa's therapeutic approach is rooted in an assimilative-integrative framework, combining cognitive-behavioral, developmental, and relational evidence-based treatments. This versatile methodology allows her to tailor her approach to each client's individual needs. She places a strong emphasis on helping clients identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, recognizing the profound impact our thoughts have on our feelings and behaviors. Additionally, Dr. Villa guides her clients in exploring their emotions and relationships, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and their interactions with others.
Having earned her Doctorate and Master's degree in School Psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver, an APA-accredited program, Dr. Villa brings a solid educational foundation to her practice. Her pre-doctoral internship at Denver Public Schools provided her with extensive experience in school-based mental health evaluations and counseling services, working with a diverse population of children, adolescents, and their families. This experience, coupled with her clinical training in hospitals and public schools, has equipped her with a comprehensive skill set to address a wide range of mental health concerns.
Dr. Villa's commitment to ongoing professional development is evident in her completion of the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) training. She is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA), APA Division 53 (Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology), Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists (VACP), and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). These affiliations keep her at the forefront of current research and best practices in her field.
