Christine Knorr
LCSW, CEDS • Clinical Director
About
At the heart of Christine Knorr Psychotherapy Associates is a belief that those affected by eating disorders, trauma, and mood and anxiety disorders deserve competent, evidence-based care from providers with true expertise. Christine Knorr, LCSW CEDS, the Clinical Director and founder, has cultivated an environment where each person is free to be their authentic self, without judgment, fostering healing through feeling seen, heard, and respected.
Christine's extensive experience spans multiple levels of care, including outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and Partial Hospitalization for adults, teens, and children with eating disorders. Her background also encompasses intensive therapy for teens with dual diagnosis (substance abuse and mood/anxiety disorders) and behavioral problems, as well as counseling pre-teens in school-based settings. As co-founder and chairperson of the Rockland County Eating Disorders Task Force and former director of a community-based eating disorder treatment program, Christine has demonstrated leadership in the field.
In her role as Clinical Director, Christine provides invaluable support to her team through clinical oversight, research dissemination, and creating opportunities for professional growth. Her commitment to excellence extends beyond her practice; she serves as an adjunct professor at Dominican College and is a frequent speaker at schools, professional conferences, and awareness events. This multifaceted approach ensures that each client receives the highest quality care, informed by the latest research and best practices in the field.
Christine's therapeutic approach is holistic and individualized, recognizing that eating disorders are complex issues that often intertwine with trauma, substance abuse, family dynamics, perfectionism, anxiety, and depression. She employs a range of evidence-based techniques, including Family Based Treatment/Maudsley (FBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and solution-focused approaches. Her practice is grounded in a Health At Every Size philosophy, emphasizing body positivity and a feminist relational perspective.
Clients working with Christine or her carefully selected team can expect a warm, professional environment that prioritizes their unique needs. Whether through individual therapy, family sessions, or specialized group work, the focus remains on providing compassionate, expert care that empowers individuals to heal and thrive. Christine's passion for her work is evident in her statement: "If I get to do it for 100 more years, it wouldn't be enough," reflecting her deep commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of those she serves.
