James Stokes
RMHC • Registered Mental Health Counselor
About
Faith-centered healing and a passion for helping clients create a life worth living are at the core of James Stokes' approach to mental health counseling. As a Registered Mental Health Counselor, James brings a unique blend of professional expertise and personal conviction to his practice, believing that therapy should be a place where people's values and beliefs are both utilized and respected.
James' journey in mental health counseling began at Southeastern University, where he pursued both his undergraduate degree in psychology and his master's degree in professional mental health counseling. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for his client-centered approach, which focuses on meeting people where they are and helping them reach their personal goals.
With a diverse range of experience, James has counseled young children, adolescents, and adults across various settings. His professional journey includes an internship at Peace River Center, where he honed his skills in crisis intervention and dialectical behavior therapy. Working with at-risk children and teens in danger of out-of-home placement, James developed a keen ability to engage and motivate young clients and their families, fostering healing and growth together.
James' expertise extends beyond community mental health. He has also worked in private practice, counseling a diverse group of clients and providing services through a local church. This varied experience has allowed him to develop a well-rounded approach to therapy, adapting his methods to best serve each individual client's needs.
As a native Floridian who grew up in Jacksonville before moving to central Florida for college, James brings a local's understanding to his practice. He views the opportunity to help and serve others through mental health counseling as both an honor and a privilege. His favorite Bible verse, 1 Peter 5:7, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you," reflects his belief in the power of faith as a component of mental health and wellbeing. James Stokes stands ready to guide clients on their journey towards mental health, combining professional expertise with a compassionate, faith-informed approach.
