Jenn Kennedy

With a unique blend of expertise in sexology, relationship dynamics, and mental health, Dr. Jenn Kennedy, PhD, LMFT, brings a comprehensive approach to her therapy practice in Santa Barbara. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#99688) and Board-Certified Sex Therapist, Dr. Kennedy specializes in guiding individuals and couples through the complex landscapes of sex, relationships, mood disorders, and life transitions.

Dr. Kennedy's journey to becoming a therapist is as diverse as her areas of expertise. Beginning her career as a publicist and later working as a freelance journalist for over a decade, she developed a deep fascination with human behavior and the factors that influence personal growth and struggle. This curiosity led her to pursue advanced education in psychology and sexology, culminating in a PhD in Clinical Sexology and a Masters in Clinical Psychology.

Her therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and extensive training. Dr. Kennedy utilizes Gottman Method Couples Therapy and incorporates Terry Real's concepts in her work with relationships. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma treatment and is certified in Sex Addiction Therapy (CSAT). This diverse skill set allows her to tailor her approach to each client's unique needs, whether addressing sexual health concerns, relationship issues, mood disorders, or navigating significant life changes.

Dr. Kennedy's commitment to the field extends beyond her private practice. From 2017 to 2022, she served as adjunct faculty in the Masters program at Antioch University Santa Barbara, sharing her knowledge with the next generation of therapists. Her leadership in the profession is further evidenced by her past presidency of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (SB-CAMFT).

In addition to individual and couples therapy, Dr. Kennedy offers innovative group sessions, including The Pleasure Circle, a small group focused on sexual health for women. She also contributes to public education on sexual health through her writing and podcasting with The Pleasure Project, demonstrating her dedication to broader community education and destigmatization of sexual health topics.
