About
At the intersection of family therapy and perinatal mental health stands Dr. Melissa Tihin, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has dedicated her career to supporting the emotional well-being of individuals, couples, and families. With a particular passion for working with perinatal women and their families, Dr. Tihin brings a wealth of expertise to her role as the founder and CEO of Central Valley Family Therapy in Fresno, California.
Dr. Tihin's approach to therapy is deeply rooted in her extensive educational background and specialized training. A native Californian, she completed her bachelor's in communications from the University of California, San Diego, in 2003. Her pursuit of knowledge in the field of mental health led her to earn a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2012, followed by a Doctorate (Psy.D.) in Couples and Family Therapy from The California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in 2017.
What sets Dr. Tihin apart is her commitment to specialized care, as evidenced by her certifications in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) and Infant-Preschooler Mental Health (IPMH). These certifications, coupled with her intensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), enable her to provide targeted, effective treatment for a wide range of mental health concerns.
Before founding Central Valley Family Therapy in 2017, Dr. Tihin honed her skills working at various community agencies across California that specialized in treating trauma. This experience laid the foundation for her private practice, which she established in 2015. In her current role, she leads a team of high-quality, committed clinicians dedicated to serving individuals, couples, and families of all races and socioeconomic statuses.
Dr. Tihin's vision for Central Valley Family Therapy goes beyond individual care. She has created a community-based resource that provides access to top-notch mental health services, allowing families in the Central Valley to process their individual and systemic traumas. Her leadership has fostered an environment where positive clinical outcomes and personal growth flourish, reflecting her ongoing commitment to the social and emotional well-being of not just her clients, but the broader community as well.
As a therapist, Dr. Tihin embodies the quote, "If it doesn't scare you, you're probably not dreaming big enough."
