Sarah Varnes
M.S., LMFT • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
About
With a compassionate approach that recognizes the importance of family systems, Sarah Varnes, M.S., LMFT, brings a unique perspective to her therapy practice. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Sarah understands that healing often involves considering the entire ecosystem surrounding an individual. Her practice is built on the foundation that a healthy system can only exist when the expectations, needs, desires, and behaviors of each person within it have been carefully considered.
Sarah's educational background includes a Masters degree from Lee University in Cleveland, TN, complemented by an undergraduate degree in psychology. This comprehensive training has equipped her with the skills to look at clients in relation to their broader system, including family dynamics, behavioral patterns, and communication styles both within and outside the therapy session.
With a diverse clientele, Sarah has cultivated extensive experience working with individuals, children (ages 6 and up), couples (married, unmarried, and premarital), families, and LGBTQ clients. Her areas of expertise encompass a wide range of issues, including grief and loss, life transitions, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, childhood and adult ADHD, and parenting challenges. Sarah is particularly passionate about providing a safe space for clients to process their narratives, believing that this is a crucial step in the healing journey.
Sarah's therapeutic approach is both eclectic and evidence-based. She holds a facilitator certification for Prepare/Enrich, an assessment tool designed to help couples better understand and improve their relationships. For her younger clients, Sarah incorporates Play Therapy techniques and interventions. Her primary therapeutic influences are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy. CBT allows her to work with clients on restructuring unhelpful thought patterns, while Narrative Therapy focuses on exploring and potentially rewriting the client's current story. Sarah has found that these modalities work synergistically to provide relief and foster healing.
Clients who work with Sarah can expect a therapist who is not only professionally skilled but also deeply committed to their well-being. Her approach is tailored to each individual's unique circumstances, recognizing that every person's journey is distinct. Whether you're struggling with personal issues, seeking to improve your relationships, or navigating life's transitions, Sarah offers a supportive and insightful therapeutic experience aimed at fostering growth and positive change.
