Sherry Bartels

Dr. Amy Newstrom is a board-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and licensed professional counselor with extensive experience in both physical and mental healthcare. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from the University of Montana in 2002, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State University in 2003. She worked as a registered nurse in cardiopulmonary and emergency care until 2010.

She holds a Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner, 2010) and a Master of Science in Counseling (2015). In 2021, she completed both her Doctor of Nursing Practice and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health from South Dakota State University.

Dr. Newstrom has provided mental health care in the Rapid City area since 2013. Her experience includes outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care, treatment of inmates at the county jail, and specialized work with transcranial magnetic stimulation and treatment-resistant depression.
