Sonya Smith

Sonya Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 3 years of post-graduate experience supporting individuals with mental and behavioral health needs. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, she came to Alaska in 2002 through military service and later built her career in counseling after working in education and residential substance abuse treatment. Sonya specializes in severe mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, PTSD, and substance use, drawing on evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She is also a certified chemical dependency counselor and takes an eclectic, strength-based approach tailored to each client’s needs.
