Trese McLaughlin
LCPC • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
About
Embracing a client-led approach to therapy, Trese McLaughlin, LCPC, creates a safe and supportive environment where individuals can explore their unique paths to healing and growth. With a focus on adults and college students, Trese specializes in navigating the complex landscapes of depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-esteem challenges.
Trese's therapeutic toolbox is both diverse and adaptable, drawing from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She seamlessly integrates these approaches with person-centered techniques, mindfulness practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and compassion-focused therapy. This eclectic mix allows her to tailor her approach to each client's specific needs and preferences.
A firm believer in the power of the therapeutic relationship, Trese invests time in building strong connections with her clients. She understands that while clients may wish for overnight changes, it's often the small, meaningful shifts that create lasting impact. Her approach honors the pace of each individual's journey, helping clients identify and celebrate progress that might otherwise go unnoticed in our fast-paced world.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Seattle, Trese's journey to becoming a therapist is as unique as her approach. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Central Washington University before completing her Master's in Psychology with a clinical emphasis at Eastern Washington University. Her move to Central Illinois brought a dramatic change of scenery, trading evergreens and Mt. Rainier for cornfields and soybeans, but it also marked the beginning of her impactful career in mental health counseling.
Trese's love for snow and winter activities adds a playful dimension to her personality, often bringing joy and levity to her therapeutic approach. This balance of professional expertise and personal warmth creates a welcoming atmosphere where clients feel understood and empowered to face their challenges.
