Athanasia Mazinova
MHC • Mental Health Counseling Intern
About
Bridging the gap between specialized autism care and comprehensive mental health support, Athanasia Mazinova brings a unique blend of experience to her role as a Mental Health Counselor Intern at Tree of Life MHC. With a background in working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, Athanasia has honed her skills in understanding and addressing the diverse needs of clients across a wide age range, from young children to adults.
As a master's level clinician, Athanasia is part of an innovative collaboration between Tree of Life MHC and CUNY CSI's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. This partnership allows her to offer high-quality, low-fee counseling services to the Staten Island community, making mental health care more accessible to those who might otherwise struggle to afford it.
Athanasia's approach to therapy is both comprehensive and tailored to each client's needs. She draws from a combination of theoretical approaches, with a particular emphasis on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This evidence-based method is known for its effectiveness in treating a variety of mental health concerns, helping clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors.
Her experience as a behavioral technician and teaching assistant for individuals aged 3-21 on the Autism Spectrum has given Athanasia a deep understanding of neurodiversity and the unique challenges faced by individuals with autism and their families. This specialized knowledge informs her practice, allowing her to provide sensitive and effective support to neurodiverse clients and their loved ones.
At Tree of Life MHC, Athanasia is part of a team that offers a range of services, including individual and couples counseling, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and art therapy. Her ability to work with such a broad age range – from children to adults – speaks to her versatility as a therapist and her commitment to serving the diverse needs of the community. Whether working with a child struggling with anxiety, a teenager navigating the complexities of adolescence, or an adult seeking personal growth, Athanasia brings empathy, expertise, and a fresh perspective to each therapeutic relationship.
