As a seasoned healthcare professional and former licensed long-term care administrator, Dr. Johnson brings a unique perspective to her role as Clinical Lead in Geriatric services at the Associated Clinic of Psychology (ACP).

Dr. Johnson's expertise lies in supporting the mental health development of older adults through the creation of a therapeutic milieu. This innovative approach involves not only working directly with clients but also fostering a positive and creative problem-solving environment for employees and family caregivers. By addressing the entire ecosystem surrounding an older adult, Dr. Johnson strives to maximize the potential for healing and growth.

With a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from the University of St. Thomas, a Master of Science in Psychology from St. Mary's University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from St. Cloud State University, Dr. Johnson's educational background provides a strong foundation for her work. Her credentials as a Licensed Psychologist (LP) and training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) further enhance her ability to serve the complex needs of the geriatric population.

Dr. Johnson's areas of specialty are extensive and tailored to the unique challenges faced by older adults. She offers individual, family, and group counseling for seniors residing in long-term care facilities and in the community. Her expertise extends to diagnostic assessment and psychological testing for older adults, as well as health care consultation, training, and program development. Dr. Johnson is particularly skilled in dementia care, including detection, diagnosis, patient/family treatment, and support, as well as behavioral management strategies.

Beyond direct client work, Dr. Johnson is committed to advancing the field of geriatric mental health. She develops curriculum and teaches in the field of aging and psychology, offering continuing education units and instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her professional writing encompasses grant proposals, educational curriculum, best-practice manuals, and articles related to older adult mental health. Dr. Johnson's interests also include exploring topics such as gerotranscendence, the myths and realities of aging, and models for mental health service delivery in long-term care settings.

Clients working with Dr. Johnson can expect a comprehensive approach that considers their individual needs within the context of their living environment. Whether addressing depression in long-term care, applying reminiscence and life review techniques, or implementing DBT strategies, Dr. Johnson's goal is to enhance the quality of life for older adults and support those who care for them.
