With a strong foundation in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from UC Santa Cruz, and an MD from the Chicago Medical School, he completed his residency at the UCLA San Fernando Valley Veteran Association Psychiatry Training Program. His academic pursuits were further enriched by his role as a Junior Specialist in a Howard Hughes Medical Institute laboratory studying neurogenetics.
Specializing in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies, Dr. Marta has been instrumental in conducting groundbreaking research on mood disorders, anxiety, substance use, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). His work extends beyond traditional psychiatric approaches, embracing the potential of psychedelic medicines to offer new hope for those struggling with mental health challenges. As the primary clinical investigator for phase II and III clinical trials of MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD since 2017, and phase III clinical trials for psilocybin-assisted therapy for treatment-resistant depression since 2023, Dr. Marta is at the cutting edge of this emerging field.
