About
With over a decade of experience navigating the complex landscape of human relationships and sexuality, Corey Thompson, MA, LMHC, brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to his role as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Specializing in relationships, communication, sexuality, and men's issues, Corey creates a supportive and clear path to wellness in a safe, holistic setting that considers the various bio/psycho/social/spiritual/sexual elements of his clients' lives.
Corey's approach is rooted in the belief that while we all share many of the same struggles, each person's experience is unique. He meets clients where they are, helping them enact positive changes and build on existing strengths. His therapeutic style is best described as positive, person-centered, and solution-focused, drawing from extensive training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy (GMCT), Imago Therapy, and Sensate Focus therapy models.
As a clinician with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies, Corey has developed expertise in a wide range of areas. These include relationships and marriage counseling, premarital therapy, communication skill-building, sex and intimacy therapy, non-traditional relationships, LGBTQIA+ issues, and men's mental health. He also specializes in addressing out of control sexual behavior, sexual challenges and dysfunctions, co-occurring disorders, betrayal trauma, and issues related to anxiety, depression, and stress.
Corey's therapeutic process begins by helping individuals, couples, and polycules examine their past, present, and desired future. He assists in identifying shared and individual goals, recognizing negative patterns, and developing more connected, intimate, and meaningful ways of engaging with partners. This approach helps clients enhance or rebuild connections, increase intimacy, and live more fulfilling lives together.
Committed to creating a safe space for exploration and growth, Corey leverages his years of acquiring skills, training, knowledge, and life experience to guide clients towards their goals, both individually and relationally.
