PSY.D. • Licensed Clinical Psychologist
About
"Change, no matter how necessary it may be, is never easy." This powerful insight forms the foundation of Dr. Courtney Freiman's approach to therapy at Psychological Wellness Services, which she founded in 2014. As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Freiman creates an open and supportive environment where individuals and couples feel comfortable sharing their personal stories.
Dr. Freiman's therapeutic approach is as diverse as the clients she serves. Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment and Mindfulness therapies, she tailors her treatment to each individual's unique needs. This eclectic approach allows her to assess difficulties, set realistic goals, and evaluate progress effectively. As a Level II trained Gottman Method Couple's therapist, Dr. Freiman applies these techniques to help couples strengthen their relationships and achieve long-lasting changes, both emotionally and physically.
Dr. Freiman's expertise extends beyond individual and couples therapy. Her comprehensive research on Iraqi war veterans who experienced post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) has equipped her to proudly serve active and former military personnel and their family members. This specialized knowledge, combined with her broad therapeutic toolkit, enables Dr. Freiman to address a wide range of mental health concerns with empathy and skill.
The journey to founding Psychological Wellness Services began with Dr. Freiman earning her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology (ASPP) in Washington, D.C. in 2010. Prior to establishing her own practice, she gained valuable experience working in various settings, including community mental health centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and other clinical environments, seeing patients in a private practice setting for eight years.
Dr. Freiman's commitment to accessibility and continuity of care is evident in her membership with PSYPACT, an interstate compact that allows licensed psychologists to practice teletherapy across state boundaries legally and ethically. This enables her to provide services to clients in numerous states, ensuring that geographical barriers do not impede access to quality mental health care.
At Psychological Wellness Services, Dr. Freiman and her team view themselves as translators, particularly when working with couples. They help clients understand, interpret, and speak their partner's language, using research-based methods to deepen friendships, manage conflicts, and support future hopes. Dr. Freiman's ultimate goal is to empower individuals to set healthy personal goals and make positive changes toward self-growth, providing honest, supportive, and constructive feedback to enhance self-awareness and facilitate adaptive changes.
