Emrys Rintoul
LMFT • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
About
With an irreverent and humor-based style, Emrys Rintoul, LMFT, brings a unique blend of client-centered, systemic, and humanistic approaches to their therapy practice. As a licensed Marriage and Family therapist, Emrys believes that change is nurtured through building individual capacity and skills while addressing systemic barriers to growth. This philosophy underpins their work with clients of all ages, from children as young as 6 to adults, couples, and families.
Emrys's journey to becoming a therapist is as unconventional as their approach. Originally from the East Coast, they earned a Bachelor's in Sculpture before venturing westward, drawn by the allure of better weather. This artistic background informs their creative approach to therapy. Emrys went on to obtain their Master's in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California, providing them with a solid foundation in depth psychology and humanistic approaches.
Their diverse professional experience spans a variety of settings, including transitional housing for youth, residential facilities, and outpatient community clinics. This breadth of experience has honed Emrys's ability to work effectively with a wide range of clients and issues. They have particular expertise in providing individual and family therapy to children and adolescents in educational settings, supporting gender-expansive individuals in accessing medical care and deepening self-understanding, and facilitating LGBTQ+ support groups in school and work environments.
Emrys's therapeutic toolkit is as diverse as their experience. They utilize somatic experiencing, narrative and play-based therapy, collaborative problem solving, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support clients through the process of change. This eclectic approach allows them to tailor their methods to each client's unique needs and goals.
In the therapy room, clients can expect an animated and engaged therapist who isn't afraid to use humor as a tool for healing. Emrys's systemic perspective means they consider not just the individual, but also the broader context of their clients' lives. Whether working with a child navigating school challenges, a couple seeking to strengthen their relationship, or an individual exploring their gender identity, Emrys brings a compassionate, holistic, and often lighthearted approach to the therapeutic process.
