Specializing in strength-based services and interventions primarily associated with cognitive-behavioral and behavioral approaches, Dr. Long has honed her skills in working with youth, adults, and families, offering a comprehensive range of psychological services.
Dr. Long's journey in psychology began on the east coast, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT in 1999. Her passion for helping others led her to work in child protective services before pursuing advanced studies. She went on to complete her M.A. (2004) and Psy.D. (2011) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford, solidifying her expertise in the field.
During her predoctoral internship at Devereux Massachusetts, a residential treatment center for emotionally and behaviorally disturbed youth and their families, Dr. Long received specialized training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). This experience equipped her with valuable skills in addressing severe emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, and harmful behaviors such as self-injury. Her diverse clinical background also includes work in adult psychiatric inpatient settings, children and adolescent outpatient and day school programs, elder liaison/counseling services, and adult/youth crisis management.
Since opening her private practice in Kennewick, WA in 2012, Dr. Long has been dedicated to providing a range of services including individual, family, and group therapy, as well as psychological assessment. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, working closely with clients to discover and build upon their strengths while developing the awareness and skills needed to overcome areas of struggle. Dr. Long's treatment specializations include therapy for mood, anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders, as well as addressing self-injury, emotion dysregulation, interpersonal difficulties, and other at-risk behaviors with DBT-informed treatment.
Dr. Long's commitment to her clients extends beyond traditional in-office sessions. She has embraced telepsychology services, offering remote therapy options to ensure continuity of care and accessibility for her clients. This adaptability demonstrates her dedication to meeting the evolving needs of those she serves, particularly in challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
