Michelle Desrochers
MH, MS, LMHC-QS • Licensed Mental Health Counselor
About
Healing from trauma and finding restoration is at the heart of Michelle Desrochers' therapeutic approach. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor-Qualified Supervisor (LMHC-QS) with master's degrees in Mental Health and Science, Michelle brings a wealth of experience and specialized training to her practice at Tree of Life Counseling, LLC.
Michelle's journey in mental health is deeply rooted in her passion for helping individuals, especially children and families, overcome the challenges posed by trauma and PTSD. Her background as a retired military officer gives her a unique perspective and a special interest in working with clients struggling with military-related issues. This experience, combined with her professional training, allows her to provide compassionate and effective care to those dealing with the aftermath of traumatic experiences.
At the core of Michelle's practice is her commitment to evidence-based therapies. She is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Certified, a powerful technique known for its effectiveness in treating trauma and PTSD. Michelle also incorporates Theraplay, Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and other trauma-focused principles into her therapeutic approach. These modalities allow her to address the complex needs of her clients, particularly when working with children and families to repair relationships and heal from generational trauma.
Michelle believes in the power of family-centered healing. She recognizes that when children experience trauma, loss, or struggle with emotion regulation, involving the family in the therapeutic process is essential. This approach not only helps the child but also provides an opportunity for parents and caregivers to address and heal from their own experiences, breaking cycles of generational trauma.
As a Christian, Michelle is open to incorporating Christian counseling into therapy upon a client's request. However, she respects and values diverse beliefs and backgrounds, ensuring that all clients receive the highest quality of professional care regardless of their personal faith or worldview. Her practice is founded on respect for the dignity and worth of all people, embracing clients from various backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences.
At Tree of Life Counseling, Michelle and her team offer a range of services, including individual and family therapy, with a focus on trauma recovery, PTSD treatment, and child and adolescent mental health. They utilize various therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to provide comprehensive care tailored to each client's unique needs.
Michelle Desrochers' approach to therapy is not just about addressing symptoms; it's about facilitating growth, improving quality of life, and helping clients experience the fullness of life. Whether working with a child struggling to process a traumatic event or an adult veteran grappling with PTSD, Michelle brings her expertise, compassion, and dedication to every session, guiding her clients on their journey toward healing and restoration.
