Buchwald completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at Towson University and participated in research at Macquarie University in Australia. She earned her graduate degree in mental health counseling from Brooklyn College. Her specialized training includes graduation from the Center of Anorexia and Bulimia in New York City and advanced training from the Hakomi Institute, along with a fellowship at the Karen Horney Institute.
