About

Yoga mats and therapy couches may seem worlds apart, but for Samantha Congdon, LMFT, they are intricately intertwined. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a unique blend of clinical expertise and mindfulness training, Samantha offers a holistic approach to mental health that draws from both Eastern and Western practices.

Samantha's therapeutic toolkit is as diverse as the clients she serves. Working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, she employs a wide range of evidence-based techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Her expertise extends to specialized areas such as PTSD, sexual abuse, substance abuse, and generational trauma. Samantha is also well-versed in supporting neurodivergent youth and families, bringing a nuanced understanding to the complex interplay of neurological differences and family dynamics.

What sets Samantha apart is her integration of mindfulness and yoga into her therapeutic practice. In 2016, she completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher training in Rishikesh, India, adding another dimension to her professional skillset. This experience allows her to incorporate mindfulness, breathing, and relaxation techniques into her sessions, offering clients practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Samantha's journey in mental health began at California State University, Chico, where she earned both her bachelor's degree in Psychology and master's degree in Marriage Family Therapy. Her early career at Butte County Behavioral Health saw her working with children, adolescents, and young adults with moderate to severe mental health disorders. There, she honed her skills in assessment, treatment planning, and group therapy, even creating innovative programs like a teen girls group focusing on stress reduction through mindfulness.

Continuing education has been a cornerstone of Samantha's professional development. She has completed Narrative Therapy Level II Training and received specialized training in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) through the Yale Child Study Center. These additional qualifications enhance her ability to work effectively with diverse client needs and family situations.

In a unique twist that speaks to her commitment to creating a comforting therapeutic environment, Samantha offers the option of including her therapy dog, Millie, in sessions. This animal-assisted approach can provide additional support and comfort to clients during their therapeutic journey.

Licensed in Maryland, Virginia, California, and New Hampshire, Samantha brings a wealth of experience and a multifaceted approach to her practice. Her combination of traditional psychotherapy techniques, mindfulness practices, and innovative approaches like animal-assisted therapy offers clients a truly comprehensive and personalized path to mental wellness.
