About
Compassion and humor are at the heart of Selena Ainzuain's therapeutic approach. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Selena creates a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where clients can be their authentic selves while navigating life's challenges.
Selena's journey in mental health began at Boston University, where she earned her master's degree in Clinical Social Work. Her training and experience have equipped her with a diverse skill set to address a wide range of mental health concerns. During her internship at a community-based center in North Carolina, Selena honed her expertise in working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, and various life stressors. She further expanded her knowledge at the Regional Center for Infectious Disease, where she supported clients living with or recently diagnosed with HIV, gaining valuable insights into the unique mental health challenges faced by this population.
Selena's therapeutic toolkit is both comprehensive and tailored to individual needs. She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT for children, Gender Affirming Care, and SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) for alcohol and drug screening. This diverse skill set allows her to adapt her approach to best serve each client's unique circumstances and goals.
With a special interest in working with adolescents and adults in the LGBTQ+ community, Selena is particularly adept at addressing issues related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and the specific mental health challenges often faced by this population. Her expertise also extends to supporting individuals grappling with depression, anxiety, grief, and survivors of trauma, including childhood trauma.
Selena's approach is rooted in the belief that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to healing and growth. She skillfully incorporates compassion and humor into her work, fostering a strong connection with clients that promotes a positive and effective therapeutic experience. By creating an environment of acceptance and understanding, Selena empowers her clients to explore their thoughts and feelings freely, working collaboratively towards personal growth and improved mental well-being.
