About
With over 30 years of experience in the Triad area, Sheryl Ketner brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her therapeutic practice. Specializing in anxiety, stress management, relationship concerns, and life transition issues, Sheryl employs a diverse range of therapeutic approaches to help her clients navigate life's challenges.
Sheryl's educational background is as comprehensive as her professional experience. She holds a BA in Politics from NC State University, complemented by a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Counseling from UNCG. This unique blend of political science and psychology provides Sheryl with a multifaceted perspective on human behavior and societal influences.
In her therapeutic work, Sheryl draws from a variety of evidence-based approaches. She utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps clients embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. For those seeking practical solutions to immediate problems, Sheryl employs Solution-Focused therapy. She also incorporates the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a novel approach that combines cognitive processes with acupressure. Additionally, Sheryl's toolkit includes Psychodynamic therapy, allowing her to help clients understand how their past experiences influence their present behavior.
Sheryl's philosophy centers on the belief that the therapeutic relationship is a collaboration. She views her clients as the "experts" on themselves, fostering an environment of mutual respect and shared discovery. This approach empowers clients to take an active role in their healing process, guided by Sheryl's professional insights and supportive presence.
Beyond her work with individual clients, Sheryl also provides clinical supervision for provisionally licensed counselors, contributing to the development of the next generation of mental health professionals. In a unique and heartwarming touch, Sheryl's dog, Ridley, often assists in therapy sessions and serves as the main greeter for clients and visitors at Santé Counseling, adding an element of comfort and warmth to the therapeutic environment.
