Tyler's journey in the field of mental health is marked by a rich educational background and diverse clinical experiences. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from Coppin State University in 2017, followed by a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Johns Hopkins University in 2019. Currently, Tyler is furthering his expertise as a Doctoral Candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision at The University of Toledo, demonstrating his commitment to continuous professional growth.
Throughout his career, Tyler has gained valuable experience working with a wide range of age groups and in various settings. His clinical background includes interning at the Progressive Life Center: Adolescent Clubhouse in Baltimore, MD, where he co-facilitated psychoeducational groups for at-risk youth aged 12 to 18. As a school-based therapist for Balance Point Wellness, he provided individual counseling to elementary and middle school children, honing his skills in communicating with parents about client progress and treatment planning. The shift to telehealth counseling in 2020 expanded his expertise to include working with adults.
Tyler's clinical competencies encompass a broad spectrum of mental health concerns. He is adept at assisting clients with emotional regulation, stress management, social issues, behavioral concerns, coping with major life transitions, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. His experience at the University of Toledo Counseling Center allowed him to work with young adults aged 18 to 25 from diverse backgrounds, conducting both individual and group counseling sessions as well as facilitating psychoeducational presentations.
In his therapeutic approach, Tyler combines his person-centered foundation with evidence-based practices. He utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Reality Therapy to empower his clients. Tyler firmly believes that through education, incorporation of healthy coping skills, and proper support, individuals can significantly improve their overall wellness.
Licensed as a Professional Counselor in Ohio and holding a National Certified Counselor credential, Tyler brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his current role at Toledo Counseling & Mental Health. Here, he has been serving a wide range of clients and families for the past year and a half, continuing to apply his diverse skill set to help individuals navigate life's challenges and achieve personal growth.
