Dr. Burrel's counseling journey began in 2008, and throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to fostering genuine, supportive connections with her clients. This foundation of trust allows for honest exploration of thoughts and feelings, setting the stage for growth and development. Dr. Burrel firmly believes that when individuals commit to understanding themselves and embrace the transition to greater self-awareness, they open the door to unlimited possibilities.
Her extensive educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration from Morgan State University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Counselor Education: College Counseling, both from Western Michigan University. This diverse academic foundation informs her holistic approach to mental health and personal development.
Beyond her private practice, Dr. Burrel serves as the Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer at the University of La Verne. Her 16-year career in higher education has focused on the growth and development of students, faculty, and staff. She also provides educational advising, counseling referrals, and diversity, equity, and inclusion consulting services through her Limited Liability Company, Peaces of Cake. Additionally, Dr. Burrel supports organizations aligned with her values, such as serving on the Board of Directors for Caleb's Kids.
