Embarking on a healing journey of curiosity, self-discovery, and empowerment is at the heart of Anna Hanson's therapeutic approach. As a PhD in Neurocognitive Science and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Dr. Hanson brings a unique blend of neurobiology expertise and nearly two decades of psychotherapy experience to her practice. She specializes in treating the varied complexities of PTSD and stress-induced mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, low self-esteem, relationship issues, and binge-eating.

Dr. Hanson's approach is deeply rooted in integrating carefully tailored mental health modalities for each client. Her therapeutic toolkit includes EMDR, Brainspotting, somatics, positive psychology, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, Jungian modalities, Intuitive Eating, body-positivity, self-compassion, and parts work (IFS). This comprehensive array of techniques allows her to address mental health struggles at their source, whether working with teens or adults.

With a master's degree from New York University and extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Dr. Hanson effectively utilizes advanced protocols to help clients resolve multi-faceted traumatic experiences. Her commitment to ongoing education is evident in her multiple professional certifications in areas of trauma work, neurodivergence, mindfulness, health and wellness, integrative approaches to psychotherapy, and disordered eating.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Hanson is a Professor of Neurobiology & Social Change at the prestigious NYU Grossman School of Medicine, bringing her wealth of knowledge in neurobiology and medicine to the academic sphere. She is deeply invested in creating social awareness that mental health matters and firmly believes that each individual deserves to live their best life.

As a multilingual, LGBTQ+ informed clinician, Dr. Hanson's personal background adds another layer of understanding to her practice. Born in the former Soviet Union, she experienced immigration and assimilation as a child, is a product of the NYC public school system, and is a proud New Yorker. This rich tapestry of experiences informs her empathetic and culturally sensitive approach to therapy. Dr. Hanson welcomes clients to untangle their minds, one insight at a time, as they work together towards healing and personal growth.
