Baiqian Zhang
LMHC • Licensed Mental Health Counselor
About
With a unique blend of Eastern and Western perspectives, Baiqian Zhang, LMHC, brings a rich tapestry of experience to her mental health practice. As a licensed mental health counselor in both New York and New Jersey, Baiqian views therapy as a collaborative journey towards a more meaningful and satisfying life. Her approach is both integrative and creative, drawing from a diverse range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), psychodynamic interventions, and drama therapy.
Baiqian's expertise spans a wide range of psychological challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress management, trauma, disordered eating, body image issues, and relationship conflicts. She has a particular passion for working with teens, adolescents, and international students, as well as addressing the unique mental health needs of Asian Americans navigating immigration and identity issues. Her rich experience extends across various settings, including outpatient community mental health clinics, hospitals, and university counseling centers, allowing her to work effectively with adults, adolescents, couples, and families.
What sets Baiqian apart is her innovative use of creative arts in therapy sessions. By incorporating these elements, she strives to make the therapeutic process not just tolerable, but enjoyable and even fun for her clients. This approach, combined with her extensive mindfulness training and background as a Chinese classical and folk dancer, has honed her expertise in cultivating mind-body harmony and embodiment practices.
Baiqian's academic journey reflects her commitment to a holistic understanding of mental health. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from Stony Brook University, complemented by a minor in Korean Studies, before obtaining her M.A. in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University. This educational background, coupled with her multicultural experiences, enables her to offer bilingual counseling in English and Chinese, with a strong working knowledge of Korean language and culture.
At Mind Connections, Baiqian not only provides individual therapy but also serves as a supervisor for psychology interns and provisional licensed therapists. Her goal is to create a safe, nurturing space where clients can explore their challenges, develop new insights, and work towards personal growth. Whether you're struggling with everyday stressors or facing more complex psychological issues, Baiqian Zhang is dedicated to guiding you on your path to healing and self-discovery.
