About
With a passion for relationship counseling and a grounding, warm presence, Brien Wood, MA, LMHC, LMFT, has been helping individuals and couples find connection and healing for over 15 years. As a co-founder of Puget Sound Psychotherapy & Psychiatry, Brien has not only developed a flourishing private practice but has also contributed to creating a supportive community for both clients and fellow mental health providers.
Brien specializes in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, focusing on de-escalating negative cycles of disconnection and building relationship stability. His approach is rooted in attachment theory, aiming to help clients feel at home within themselves while fostering deliberate, fulfilling, and connected relationships. Brien works with a diverse range of relationship configurations and sexual orientations, including LGBTQ and straight relationships, non-monogamy, monogamy, married, unmarried, newly connecting couples, and blended families.
In addition to his expertise in couples therapy, Brien is skilled in trauma work, particularly in helping individuals heal from the wounds of difficult childhoods. His therapeutic toolkit is enriched by extensive post-graduate training, including certification in Gestalt Therapy, training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and completion of the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This diverse background allows Brien to tailor his approach to each client's unique needs.
Brien's professional journey includes roles as a faculty member at Gestalt Associates Training Los Angeles and as a Family Services Therapist at Ruth Dykeman Youth & Family Services. He now maintains a private practice where he not only works with clients but also provides clinical supervision to licensure associates, fostering the next generation of mental health professionals.
Clients working with Brien can expect a collaborative approach that combines empathy with evidence-based techniques.
