About

With over 19 years of private practice experience, Carrie Christensen brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the field of psychotherapy. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with recognized Psychotherapy Privileges (LCSW-R), Carrie's approach is both eclectic and deeply rooted in established therapeutic traditions.

Carrie's academic journey began at the prestigious Columbia University School of Social Work, where she laid the foundation for her career. She further honed her skills through a post-graduate training program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, demonstrating her commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

While Carrie's practice addresses a wide range of mental health concerns, she has developed particular clinical interests in chronic illness, grief and loss, therapists in therapy, depression and anxiety, and gender-related issues. Her theoretical orientation is influenced by Freudian thought, Attachment Theory, and Relational Theory, allowing her to tailor her approach to each client's unique needs.

Carrie's extensive supervisory experience spans various prestigious institutions, including New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College, and the Psychoanalytic Institute in China. This breadth of experience not only speaks to her expertise but also to her ability to work with diverse populations and in different cultural contexts.

In recent years, Carrie has dedicated herself to becoming an anti-racist practitioner, recognizing this as essential to ethical psychotherapy. She is actively educating herself about BIPOC ancestral trauma and the lived experiences of BIPOC individuals in the United States, demonstrating her commitment to cultural competence and inclusive practice.

Licensed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, Carrie offers a depth of experience and a broad perspective to her clients.
