About
At the intersection of trauma recovery and LGBTQ+ advocacy stands Dr. Chad Corbley, a licensed psychologist whose practice embodies a holistic approach to mental health. With a deep commitment to fostering a "brave space" for growth, Dr. Corbley has cultivated a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe enough to take risks and evolve.
Dr. Corbley's journey in psychology began at The Ohio State University, where he completed both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, graduating in 2008. His academic path included a pre-doctoral internship at UNC-Charlotte's Counseling Center, followed by a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Ohio University. Since obtaining his Ohio licensure as a psychologist in 2010, Dr. Corbley has dedicated his career to private practice, specializing in trauma and LGBTQ concerns.
At the core of Dr. Corbley's therapeutic approach is a blend of humanistic and interpersonal theories, emphasizing non-judgmental exploration of clients' experiences, reactions, emotions, and relationships within a historical context. He employs an eclectic methodology, weaving together cognitive, behavioral, and existential approaches with his foundational humanistic/interpersonal base. Somatic work plays a central role in his practice, beginning with basic grounding and body-awareness techniques and progressing to mindfulness-based practices that help clients bravely identify, encounter, and process difficult emotions.
Dr. Corbley's expertise extends beyond individual therapy. He has taught psychology courses at OSU and Columbus State Community College, demonstrating his commitment to education in the field. His dedication to trauma recovery is further evidenced by his volunteer work with Men Healing and Taking Back Ourselves, organizations focused on healing weekends for survivors of sexual victimization. Additionally, he delivers quarterly trainings on working with male survivors of sexual abuse and assault to new SARNCO volunteers, sharing his specialized knowledge to benefit the wider community.
As the owner of City Counseling: A Home for Growth, Dr. Corbley has created a practice that reflects his philosophy of continuous personal and professional development. He believes that to effectively serve clients from all backgrounds, therapists must also engage in ongoing self-work and growth. This ethos of mutual evolution creates a unique therapeutic environment where both client and therapist are committed to the journey of healing and self-discovery.
While Dr. Corbley is currently unable to accept new clients, his practice, City Counseling, continues to offer a range of therapeutic services. The team he has assembled shares his commitment to providing a safe, inclusive space for all clients, with a particular focus on serving the LGBTQ+ community and individuals dealing with trauma. Dr. Corbley's influence extends throughout the practice, ensuring that each client receives compassionate, expert care tailored to their unique needs and experiences.
