Chris Carson's journey in the field of mental health spans over 25 years, encompassing a wealth of experience in clinical, nonprofit, residential, criminal justice, and hospital settings. This diverse background has shaped a practice that is both grounded in traditional psychotherapy and open to alternative healing modalities. The practice is deeply rooted in the belief that people are naturally zestful and filled with joy for life, and that the essence of human interaction is loving affection, communication, and cooperation. Chris's goal is to inspire clients to embrace curiosity, cultivate self-awareness, and achieve self-acceptance, providing the clarity needed to explore natural gifts and gain fresh perspectives on relationships, work, health, sexuality, family, and spirituality.
Chris's therapeutic approach is further enriched by training in various modalities, including Myers Briggs, Enneagram, mindfulness, aromatherapy, dream work, EMDR, and shamanic astrology. The practice is also influenced by Buddhist meditation, herbalism, and wilderness adventures, offering clients a truly integrative healing experience. Chris has particular expertise in trauma-informed care, shadow work, journeying, Celtic spirituality, and attachment trauma and issues.
Located in the Fan District of Richmond, Virginia, Cypress Counseling offers both in-person and online sessions, making transformative therapy accessible to clients from various locations. Chris finds joy in working with artists, healers, those on a spiritual path, and anyone seeking growth, wholeness, or a new perspective on life.
