Christina McKay
MSCP, LMFT • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
About
With a gentle touch and a wealth of experience, Christina McKay, MSCP, LMFT, brings over 12 years of dedicated service to youth and families in need of support. As a licensed therapist specializing in child therapy, Christina employs a diverse range of modalities including play therapy, talk therapy, art therapy, and narrative therapy to create a safe and nurturing environment for her young clients.
Christina's expertise extends beyond individual child therapy to encompass the entire family system. She excels in working with struggling teens and parents of all types, including single parents, adoptive parents, and those working towards reunification. Her experience with traumatized and at-risk youth, as well as parents struggling with substance dependence, allows her to approach each case with deep understanding and compassion.
A firm believer in the power of thorough assessment, Christina takes pride in providing a comprehensive diagnostic process before tailoring therapy recommendations. Her certification in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Child Maltreatment equips her with evidence-based tools to address a wide range of behavioral and emotional issues in children. PCIT, in particular, focuses on decreasing externalizing child behavior problems, increasing child social skills and cooperation, and improving the parent-child relationship.
Christina's approach is rooted in family systems therapy with a strong foundation in attachment theory. She employs a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based methodology, recognizing that unmet needs for safety, security, and healthy relationships profoundly impact an individual's perception of the world. In her practice, she strives to create an open, accepting, and collaborative space that fosters healing and growth, ultimately aiming to form secure attachments and restore a sense of safety in the world.
With a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University and ongoing doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology, Christina brings a wealth of knowledge to her practice. Her commitment to continuous learning ensures that her clients receive the most up-to-date and effective therapeutic interventions. Whether working with children as young as 2 or supporting families through complex challenges, Christina McKay stands ready to guide her clients towards stronger relationships and improved well-being.
