About

Empowering clients to look inward and work towards change and acceptance is at the heart of Elisabeth Shields' therapeutic approach. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Elisabeth brings an integrative and compassionate perspective to her practice, specializing in couples counseling, young adult issues, grief work, and individual therapy.

Elisabeth's journey in mental health began at Flagler College, where she earned her Bachelor's in Psychology. She then furthered her expertise by completing a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. This solid educational foundation has equipped her with a diverse set of tools to address the complex needs of her clients.

At the core of Elisabeth's practice is a Person-Centered approach, which she skillfully blends with other evidence-based methodologies. Her therapeutic toolkit includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness techniques, Positive Psychology, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. This integrative style allows her to tailor her approach to each client's unique circumstances and goals.

Elisabeth has honed her expertise in working with adolescents and adults, particularly those grappling with anxiety, grief, low self-esteem, suicide and self-harm, depression, and trauma. Her authentic, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner creates a safe space for clients to explore their deepest concerns and work towards healing.

Recognizing the importance of accessibility in mental health care, Elisabeth offers her services via telehealth. This allows her to provide support and guidance to clients in the comfort and convenience of their own spaces, breaking down barriers to seeking help.

Elisabeth's favorite quote, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change" by Carl Rogers, encapsulates her therapeutic philosophy. She believes in fostering self-acceptance as a catalyst for personal growth and transformation. Through her work, Elisabeth aims to help clients cultivate deeper self-awareness, boost self-esteem and self-worth, and improve their relationships and communication with others.
