Kent Campbell
LMFT • Marriage & Family Therapist
About
At the heart of Kent Campbell's therapeutic approach lies a profound understanding of how the meaning we attribute to our experiences shapes our lives. With 20 years of experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Kent has dedicated his career to helping individuals navigate life's challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.
Kent's diverse therapeutic toolkit draws from a rich tapestry of psychological theories and practices. His training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Palo Alto Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program enables him to help clients identify and alter ingrained habits through careful analysis. Complementing this, Kent integrates mindfulness-based meditation and cognitive behavioral interventions, empowering clients to shape their thoughts, behaviors, and feelings in the present moment.
As the founder and president of Family Matters group counseling practice, Kent's commitment to clinical excellence and business professionalism is evident. His expertise extends to couples counseling, where he employs the Gottman method and the Developmental Model of the Couples Institute. Kent's dedication to ethical practice is reflected in his volunteer service on the CAMFT Ethics Committee, where he contributes to setting ethical standards and evaluating professional conduct in the field.
Kent's approach to therapy is both insightful and experiential. He believes that understanding the origins of our coping mechanisms fosters self-compassion and opens the door to change. However, he emphasizes that insight alone is not enough. In Kent's sessions, clients have the opportunity to experience new patterns of interaction in real-time, forging a new dynamic that can then be applied to relationships outside of therapy.
Educated at Santa Clara University, where he earned his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and was recognized for his leadership, Kent continues to evolve as a practitioner. He now serves as a supervisor for apprentice psychotherapists, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with the next generation of mental health professionals.
Kent Campbell's therapeutic philosophy centers on helping clients make peace with their past, manage anxious minds, and consciously choose how to move forward. Through his guidance, individuals learn to focus on gratitude and forgiveness, accept their feelings, consider their thoughts, and choose their behaviors intentionally. For Kent, therapy is not just about overcoming challenges—it's about living well and creating a life of purpose and meaning.
