Maddi Elkin-Aquino
RCA • Professional Counselor Associate
About
Embracing the interconnectedness of body, mind, and relationships, Maddi Elkin-Aquino brings a holistic approach to mental health counseling. As a Professional Counselor Associate, Maddi views wellness through the lens of these innate connections, believing that individuals and communities can discover their own paths to healing by tapping into these fundamental links.
Maddi's therapeutic journey is grounded in her recent completion of a Master's degree in mental health counseling, with a specialized focus on Somatic Counseling from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. This unique educational background allows her to incorporate body-centered techniques into her practice, offering clients a comprehensive approach that goes beyond traditional talk therapy.
With a diverse range of experience, Maddi has honed her skills in counseling adult individuals facing a variety of challenges. Her areas of expertise include working with anxiety, depression, developmental and relational trauma (such as attachment wounding, sexual assault and abuse, and domestic violence), grief, and transpersonal/spiritual experiences. Additionally, Maddi has dedicated herself to supporting the LGBTQ+ community, providing affirming therapy for both teens and adults, and offering reproductive and sexual health education.
Maddi's approach to therapy is both eclectic and client-centered. While rooted in somatic therapy, she draws from a rich tapestry of therapeutic modalities including humanistic/person-centered therapy, polyvagal theory, trauma-informed approaches, attachment theory, multicultural/social justice systems paradigms, and parts-work. This integrative style allows her to tailor the therapeutic experience to each client's unique needs and goals.
In the therapy room, clients can expect a holistic and relational experience with Maddi. Her somatic counseling techniques may incorporate movement, touch, mindfulness, and breathwork practices alongside traditional talk therapy. This multifaceted approach aims to create a deeply connected and healing environment where clients can explore their challenges and work towards personal growth and wellbeing.
