About
Blending traditional psychological foundations with innovative holistic approaches, Sara Scott, LPC-MHSP, offers a unique therapeutic experience that addresses the mind, body, and spirit. As a virtual therapist with over two decades of experience in the mental health field, Sara has cultivated a diverse skill set that allows her to tailor treatment to each individual's needs.
Sara's journey in mental health began in 1995, and she has been in private practice since 1998. Her educational background includes a Master of Arts Degree in counseling psychology from Trevecca Nazarene University, obtained in 1998. This solid academic foundation serves as the bedrock for her eclectic therapeutic approach, which has evolved to incorporate a range of integrative and holistic modalities.
One of the hallmarks of Sara's practice is her use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, for which she has completed level II training. This evidence-based psychotherapy tool is particularly effective in treating trauma and anxiety disorders. Complementing this, Sara is a certified Sound Therapist and also incorporates Art therapy into her sessions, offering clients multiple avenues for expression and healing.
Sara's therapeutic philosophy extends beyond traditional talk therapy to encompass the energetic body and spiritual aspects of the individual. This holistic approach allows her to address a wide variety of mental health issues from multiple angles, promoting comprehensive healing and growth.
Throughout her career, Sara has gained valuable experience in diverse settings. She has worked in outpatient and residential alcohol and chemical dependency treatment centers, providing her with expertise in addiction recovery. Her role as a school counselor and Middle School Coordinator for Safe and Drug Free Schools has given her insight into the unique challenges faced by children and adolescents. Sara has also directed a large church counseling center in Nashville and worked as an Admissions Coordinator for an intensive in-home counseling facility for children, adolescents, and their families.
Sara particularly enjoys teaching skills that empower her clients to manage their mental health effectively. She focuses on distress tolerance, core mindfulness, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness techniques. These skills not only improve mental health and facilitate healing but also enhance creativity, offering clients tools they can use long after their therapy sessions end.
In her practice, Sara often works with individuals grappling with self-esteem issues who are ready to delve into the challenges of developing conscious, intimate relationships with themselves and others. She is also experienced in addressing parenting challenges, navigating divorce, supporting recovery processes, and working through co-dependency issues.
Currently licensed to practice in Tennessee, Florida, and New Mexico, Sara offers virtual therapy sessions, making her expertise accessible across these states. Her virtual practice allows clients to engage in therapy from the comfort of their own spaces, breaking down geographical barriers to quality mental health care.
Sara Scott's approach to therapy is a testament to her commitment to continuous learning and integration of diverse healing modalities. By combining her extensive experience, wide-ranging skills, and holistic perspective, she creates a therapeutic environment where clients can explore, heal, and grow in ways that are meaningful and lasting.
