Shmuel Fischler
LCSW-C • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
About
Curiosity and transparency form the cornerstone of Shmuel Fischler's approach to therapy. As the owner and clinical director of CBT Baltimore, Shmuel brings a unique blend of warmth, expertise, and dedication to his practice, specializing in treating various mental health challenges with a particular focus on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) among adolescents and adults.
Shmuel's therapeutic style strikes a delicate balance between a laid-back approach and maintaining a laser focus on treatment goals developed collaboratively with his clients. He believes that the relationship in the therapy room is the true driver of progress, emphasizing the importance of being genuinely curious, open, and present. This philosophy has shaped his practice and the culture at CBT Baltimore, where he leads a dedicated team in providing quality mental health care.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified clinical supervisor in Maryland, Shmuel has pursued intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through various avenues. His educational journey includes training at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia, where CBT was founded. Specializing in OCD, he has obtained advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) at the University of Pennsylvania with the renowned Edna Foa, as well as pediatric OCD through the BTTI of the IOCDF. His commitment to excellence is further evidenced by his certification as a Cognitive Therapist by the reputable Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT).
Shmuel's expertise extends beyond OCD and CBT. He has also pursued training in Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT, among others. As a professional member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), he stays at the forefront of advancements in OCD treatment.
Passionate about contributing to the mental health community, Shmuel dedicates time to providing free consultations, clinical supervision, and lectures to developing professionals in the field. His commitment to education and outreach is further demonstrated through CBT Baltimore's podcast, Mental Filter, and YouTube series, Game On, both freely accessible to the public.
When he's not in the therapy room or leading his team, Shmuel enjoys being a (self-described suffering) Chicago sports fan, staying active, and working on his dry sense of humor. His multifaceted approach to life and work embodies the creativity he often observes in those struggling with OCD, bringing a unique perspective to his practice and leadership at CBT Baltimore.
