About

From the world of animal science to the realm of mental health counseling, Adriana Smith brings a unique perspective to her role as a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern. With a background that spans over 30 years in the horse industry, Adriana has witnessed firsthand the powerful impact that animals can have on mental health. This experience inspired her to pursue a career in clinical mental health counseling, where she now applies her teaching and relationship-building skills in innovative ways to support her clients' growth and well-being.

Adriana's academic journey began at Virginia Tech, where she earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in animal science. Expanding her expertise into the mental health field, she obtained her Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. As a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern (IMH23475) with the state of Florida, Adriana is actively accruing hours toward full licensure while providing compassionate care to her clients.

Committed to staying at the forefront of her field, Adriana is a current member of both the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Florida Counseling Association (FCA). She continually seeks out training in the most research-based treatment modalities for individuals and couples, ensuring that her clients receive the most effective and up-to-date care possible. Adriana's specialized training includes being an EMDR Trained Clinician, equipping her with a leading research-based treatment for trauma. Additionally, as a Board Certified TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH 3761), she is able to offer both phone and video-based sessions, providing flexible and accessible care options for her clients.

Adriana's approach to therapy is rooted in her belief that each individual has inherent value. She is passionate about helping others become better versions of themselves and takes joy in celebrating even the smallest milestones on the path to success. Her clients can expect a collaborative therapeutic relationship, where Adriana works alongside them to facilitate positive change in their lives and relationships.

While Adriana's professional life is dedicated to mental health, she maintains a rich personal life that informs her practice. In her spare time, she enjoys the company of her husband of 15 years and their many animals, reflecting her lifelong connection to the animal world. Her interests in baking, traveling to historic cities, and searching for shark teeth on the beach showcase her curiosity and zest for life – qualities that she brings into her therapeutic work. Under the supervision of Dr. Tabitha Johnson and Ida Holem, Adriana continues to refine her skills, ensuring that her clients receive the highest quality of care as she progresses toward full licensure.
