Dr. Brittany Gerringer brings a compassionate and empowering approach to therapy, rooted in her belief that every individual deserves healing, peace, and deep connection. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and National Certified Counselor, she specializes in helping clients navigate life's challenges with gentle care and grounded hope.
Dr. Gerringer's therapeutic approach is primarily person-centered, emphasizing the importance of a warm, empathetic, and affirming relationship between counselor and client. She believes in tailoring techniques to each individual's unique needs, drawing from various methodologies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mind-body connections. Her practice is further enhanced by her training in Brainspotting, a powerful brain-based trauma protocol that aids in processing and releasing emotional pain.
With extensive experience working with teens, college students, adults, and older adults, Dr. Gerringer has expertise in addressing a wide range of concerns. Her areas of focus include disordered eating, particularly binge eating, body image issues, depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, work-life balance, academic concerns, identity and developmental issues, and life transitions. She also brings valuable experience in trauma work, substance use concerns, and integrating spirituality into counseling.
Dr. Gerringer's academic background is robust, with a BA in Psychology from Wake Forest University, a Master's degree in Counseling with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her professional experience spans various settings, including substance use screenings at a Level 1 Trauma Center, work at an interdisciplinary outpatient medical center, and counseling in a college setting.
Personally touched by trauma, Dr. Gerringer's approach is informed by her own experience of healing from a life-altering car crash. This personal journey enhances her ability to provide trauma-informed care and deepens her commitment to offering transformational support to others. In her practice, she strives to create a space where clients can embrace their humanity, make peace with mistakes, and find the strength to pursue a more joyous and meaningful life.
