Courtney Burns
MA, LPC • Licensed Professional Counselor
About
Meeting clients where they are, with a deep commitment to helping them feel seen, heard, and accepted, Courtney Burns, MA, LPC, brings a unique blend of corporate experience and counseling expertise to her practice. Since 2012, Courtney has been dedicated to guiding individuals through life's challenges, specializing in mood disorders, trauma, grief, and substance abuse.
Courtney's journey to becoming a therapist is as diverse as her approach to counseling. After earning a B.B.A. in Marketing from Texas Tech University in 1997, she pursued a career in both corporate and non-profit sectors. However, her passion for helping individuals heal and make positive changes in their lives led her to pivot her career. In 2012, she completed her M.A. in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University, embarking on a new path as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Throughout her career, Courtney has gained extensive experience in various therapeutic settings. She began her counseling journey at Raj Shiwach MD PA in DeSoto, TX, where she treated individuals and led intensive outpatient groups focusing on mood disorders, trauma, and grief. Her expertise expanded during her time at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, TX, where she worked specifically with geriatrics, mood disorders, personality disorders, and substance abuse. Notably, Courtney's experience at Valley Hope of Grapevine allowed her to work exclusively with pilots through the HIMS program, rehabilitating those with substance abuse issues to return to work safely.
Courtney's approach to therapy is eclectic and holistic, recognizing that each person brings unique challenges, goals, perspectives, and experiences to therapy. She believes in the interconnectedness of body, mind, and soul, incorporating physical wellness and spirituality into her practice when appropriate. Her areas of focus include resolving mood issues, trauma, grief, eating disorders, substance abuse, parent coaching, women's issues, and relational issues.
As a private practitioner at Las Colinas Counseling Center, Courtney continues to see individuals and serves as a HIMS-approved aftercare provider for pilots. Her personal experiences as a wife and mother of four children have deepened her interest in parenting issues, allowing her to offer insightful guidance to parents seeking to strengthen bonds with their children. Courtney's diverse background and compassionate approach create a safe, nurturing environment where clients can work towards healing and personal growth.
