About
Navigating the complexities of neurodivergence, body image struggles, and life's many transitions requires a compassionate and understanding guide. Lisa Graff, LSW, offers exactly that kind of support, specializing in helping individuals find their way through these challenging terrains with empathy, expertise, and a touch of humor.
As a Licensed Social Worker, Lisa brings a wealth of experience to her practice, focusing on supporting adults and college students who are grappling with a range of issues. Her areas of expertise include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful technique for processing trauma, as well as neurodivergence, body image concerns, parenting challenges, and life transitions.
Lisa's approach is grounded in evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and acceptance and mindfulness-based therapies. She tailors her sessions to address each client's unique needs, incorporating trauma-informed care and a Health at Every Size (HAES) framework. This combination allows her to provide a holistic, personalized approach to therapy that respects the individuality of each person she works with.
What sets Lisa apart is her commitment to creating a genuinely inviting therapeutic environment. She extends a heartfelt invitation to explore experiences, acknowledging the complexities that neurodivergence, body image struggles, and the path to parenthood bring. Her empathetic and non-judgmental approach, infused with a healthy dose of humor, creates a safe space for clients to unravel the layers of their unique stories.
Lisa's educational background includes a Master's of Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her previous clinical experience involves providing therapy to college students with physical, psychological, and developmental disabilities, giving her a deep understanding of the diverse challenges faced by her clients. This experience, combined with her work in research and grants management, provides her with a unique perspective on the intersection of academic pressures and personal growth.
When she's not in session, Lisa embraces life as a parent to two children, finding joy in playing video games, baking, and embarking on new adventures with them. Her personal interests, which include reading fantasy or sci-fi and producing and performing stand-up comedy, not only add depth to her character but also inform her approach to therapy, bringing creativity and lightheartedness to her practice.
At Bodhi Counseling & Consulting, Lisa is part of a team that promotes diversity, equality, inclusion, and justice. She is LGBTQ+ affirming and continually strives to maintain and grow her cultural competence. Whether you're struggling with self-acceptance, navigating the challenges of neurodivergence, or facing a significant life transition, Lisa Graff offers a supportive, understanding, and occasionally humorous space to explore, heal, and grow.
