About
Growing up in Utah as a person of color, Luis Torres rarely saw himself represented in the healthcare and mental health professions. This experience fueled his passion to become an advocate for the Latin community and other underrepresented groups. Today, as a Certified Social Worker (CSW), Luis specializes in providing culturally competent care to the LGBTQA+ community and BIPOC individuals.
Luis brings a unique perspective to his practice, drawing from his background as a 3rd and 2nd generation Mexican-American. He understands firsthand the challenges of navigating cultural expectations and the importance of having a therapist who can relate to one's experiences without the need for extensive explanations.
With a diverse range of professional experiences, Luis has honed his skills in various therapeutic settings. He has worked with youth and families at Utah Youth Village, where he found joy in helping clients improve throughout their intervention process. As a Registered Behavioral Technician at Advanced Behavioral Services, Luis gained valuable experience working with children with autism and their parents, describing it as a very special experience.
Luis believes that one of the greatest fears many people face is the fear of being honest. He creates a safe space where clients can explore their truth, even when it's difficult, sad, or painful. His approach focuses on guiding individuals through the process of healing, processing, and initiating important conversations about their experiences and challenges.
Dedicated to continuous growth and learning, Luis pursued his education with determination, ensuring he could effectively help his community. His commitment to being an advocate extends beyond his cultural background, as he strives to be recognized for his capabilities and expertise in the field of mental health.
