About
With over two decades of experience in mental health services, Mayra Sanchez brings a unique perspective to her practice as a bilingual psychotherapist and licensed professional counselor. Born in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and immigrating to the United States at the age of 5, Mayra's personal journey informs her deep understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant communities.
Mayra's expertise spans a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anxiety, and grief. She has a particular focus on issues related to domestic violence, anger management, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and the complex emotions surrounding separation from loved ones and dislocation due to migration. This comprehensive approach allows her to provide tailored support to clients facing diverse challenges.
In 2006, Mayra graduated from the University of Texas Pan American with a Master of Science in Rehabilitative Counseling. Her academic background, combined with her extensive practical experience, has equipped her with a robust set of tools to help clients navigate their mental health journeys. Mayra is independently licensed in the state of Texas, ensuring her practice meets the highest professional standards.
A significant portion of Mayra's career has been dedicated to working with immigrant children and their families through the Office of Refugee and Resettlement for over a decade. This experience, coupled with her advanced training from the Immigration Evaluation Training Center, has made her particularly adept at providing mental health evaluations, including psychological immigration evaluations. Her background allows her to approach these evaluations with both professional expertise and personal empathy.
Mayra's life mission is to make a positive difference in as many lives as possible through her work. She believes in the importance of helping clients tell their stories and learn to live as their most authentic selves. This philosophy underpins her approach to therapy, creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their experiences and work towards healing and personal growth.
For over 40 years, Mayra has lived and raised her own family in the Rio Grande Valley, giving her a deep connection to the community she serves. This long-standing ties to the area inform her understanding of the local culture and the specific challenges faced by her clients in this region.
As the founder of Hope for Healing Therapy, Mayra has created a practice that reflects her commitment to compassionate, culturally sensitive mental health care.
