About

Play is the universal language of children, and Sara Bagramian has made it her life's work to become fluent in this powerful form of communication. As the founder of Oak City Counseling, Sara has created a nurturing space where the transformative power of play therapy meets the needs of children, families, and aspiring therapists alike.

With over 20 years of post-graduate experience, Sara's journey in the field of mental health has been marked by a steadfast commitment to understanding and supporting children through play therapy. Her expertise extends beyond individual practice; she is a passionate educator and mentor, providing ongoing training and support to therapists within her practice and professionals in the community. Sara's dedication to the field is evident in her impressive credentials: she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S), a Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS), and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200).

Sara's vision for Oak City Counseling goes beyond providing therapy; it's about creating a teaching and mentoring space where clinicians can grow as play therapists. Her practice specializes in providing play therapy to children ages 2 and up, with a focus on child mental health, parenting, and trauma. As one of only six therapists in the area to acquire the Registered Play Supervisor (RPT-S) credential, Sara is uniquely qualified to supervise and train the next generation of play therapists.

In addition to her clinical work, Sara has been honored to speak and present on various topics related to play therapy and child trauma to agencies and university classes. Her expertise is sought after for clinical supervision, and she is qualified to supervise Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associates (LCSWA) pursuing licensure, those working towards the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential, and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHCA) in North Carolina.

As a single mother to two young boys, Sara brings a personal understanding to her work with families and single parents. Her approach combines professional expertise with genuine empathy, creating a supportive environment for both clients and aspiring therapists. At Oak City Counseling, Sara continues to expand the reach of play therapy, helping children find their voice through play and empowering parents and therapists with the tools to listen and respond effectively.
