With a quarter-century of experience in guiding individuals through life's challenges, Steve Evans, CMHC, brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to his clinical mental health counseling practice. His journey in the field of mental health is as diverse as it is profound, spanning from substance abuse counseling in the U.S. Navy to his current role as a holistic mental health professional.
Steve's approach to therapy is both eclectic and client-centered. He currently employs a Gestalt/Existential approach, infused with the cognitive behavioral techniques he honed over 19 years of practice. This unique blend allows him to address the immediate concerns of his clients while also exploring deeper existential questions, creating a therapeutic experience that is both practical and deeply transformative.
Specializing in a wide array of mental health challenges, Steve is adept at treating anger issues, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, and trauma. His expertise extends to relationship issues, complex grief, and premarital and marriage counseling, making him a versatile therapist capable of addressing a broad spectrum of human experiences. Steve works with clients ranging from age 8 and above, including children, teens, adults, and seniors, in individual, couple, and family settings.
Steve's professional journey is marked by significant milestones. He spent 14 years as a substance abuse counselor in the U.S. Navy, followed by 5 years in civilian substance abuse counseling. For the past 6 years, he has focused on mental health and Christian counseling, integrating his faith-based perspective with evidence-based practices. This unique background allows him to offer both Christian and non-Christian counseling, ensuring that his services are accessible and comfortable for clients of all beliefs.
In addition to his in-person services, Steve offers telehealth sessions, recognizing the importance of accessibility in mental health care. His LGBTQIA+ friendly approach underscores his commitment to creating a safe, inclusive space for all clients. Whether through traditional face-to-face sessions or virtual meetings, Steve is dedicated to providing compassionate, effective care tailored to each individual's needs.
