Kristine Altwies

Kristine Altwies is a Clinical Director at Pono Roots Counseling Center. Altwies works with couples, teens, and adults, offering support for anxiety, depression, adoption and family of origin issues, and life transitions. She is LGBTQIA+ supportive and welcomes clients from diverse backgrounds.

Altwies holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Hawaii, Michigan, and New Jersey. Her career began in education, followed by roles such as managing editor of the Wiley Encyclopedia of Psychology and Executive Director of Hawai'i International Child Placement and Family Services, Inc.

Using Internal Family Systems, Narrative therapy, and trauma-informed care, Altwies provides a collaborative therapeutic environment. She is trained in EMDR to assist clients in processing trauma. Her practice emphasizes understanding family origins to foster personal insight, offering a safe space for exploration and growth.
