About

With over two decades of dedicated experience, Melissa Dumaz stands at the forefront of trauma-informed therapy, specializing in guiding clients through the intricate landscape of emotional, mental, and physical trauma. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Melissa's approach is rooted in the profound belief that every individual possesses the inner strength to overcome life's challenges – they simply need the right guidance to unlock and harness these internal resources.

Melissa's journey in the field of mental health began with a solid academic foundation. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of La Verne, followed by a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Long Beach. This educational background, coupled with her licensure in 2009, set the stage for a career dedicated to healing and empowerment.

Throughout her professional journey, Melissa has honed her skills in various pivotal roles. Her experience as an in-house therapist for the Violence Intervention Program in Los Angeles provided her with invaluable insights into trauma treatment. She further expanded her expertise through positions at the Hollywood-YMCA Counseling Center, Penny Lane Centers, Counseling 4 Kids, and Foothill Health & Rehab Hospital Center, each role contributing to her comprehensive understanding of mental health challenges across diverse populations.

In 2010, Melissa took a significant step by founding her own practice, aptly named "U Help You." This name reflects her core philosophy – that the power to heal and grow lies within each individual. Her approach is deeply personalized, tailoring each session to meet the unique needs of her clients. Melissa's expertise extends beyond trauma to encompass grief and loss, relationship satisfaction, parenting challenges, life transitions, and self-care.

Melissa's therapeutic toolbox is rich and varied. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the Incredible Years Parenting Program, and Seeking Safety. These evidence-based techniques allow her to provide cutting-edge treatment tailored to each client's specific needs. As a Clinical Member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), Melissa remains at the forefront of developments in her field, ensuring her clients receive the most effective and up-to-date care.

For Melissa, therapy is more than a profession – it's a calling. She is driven by a passionate commitment to alleviating the profound pain that no one should endure alone. Her most rewarding moments come from witnessing the transformative "light bulb" moments in her clients, signaling pivotal breakthroughs in their healing journeys. Whether working with individuals navigating personal traumas, couples seeking to strengthen their relationships, or professionals grappling with work-life balance, Melissa brings a wealth of experience, empathy, and expertise to each therapeutic relationship.

Melissa's practice goes beyond traditional one-on-one therapy. She offers innovative services such as EMDR Intensives – longer, more focused sessions designed for deep trauma processing. Additionally, she extends her reach through group events, workshops, and speaking engagements in various settings, from corporations to schools, bringing mental health awareness and tools to broader audiences.

In choosing to work with Melissa Dumaz, clients can expect a supportive, empowering therapeutic experience. Her approach combines professional expertise with genuine care, creating a safe space for exploration, healing, and growth. Whether you're seeking to overcome trauma, improve relationships, or simply find a more balanced and fulfilling life, Melissa is dedicated to guiding you on your journey to becoming the best version of yourself.
