With over three decades of counseling experience, Heath Smith has dedicated his career to empowering individuals to overcome life's challenges and unlock their full potential. As a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Heath specializes in treating a wide range of issues, including addictions, ADHD, depression, anxiety, relational problems, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Heath's academic background is as diverse as his clinical expertise. He holds a Master's degree in professional counseling from Liberty University, complemented by a graduate degree in Christian Counseling and an undergraduate degree in theology from Logos Christian College. This unique educational blend allows him to offer a holistic approach to mental health, integrating spiritual awareness into personal goals and objectives when appropriate for his clients.
As a Board Certified diplomat of the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, Heath has maintained a private counseling practice since 1990. His coaching practice, which began in 2005, specializes in transformational, ADHD, and parent coaching. This dual focus on counseling and coaching enables him to provide comprehensive support to his clients, helping them navigate both clinical issues and life skills development.
Heath's expertise extends beyond his private practice. He has provided consultation and training to numerous school districts, including Brownsville ISD, Edinburg CISD, McAllen ISD, and Raymondville ISD, among others. This work demonstrates his commitment to community mental health and education, sharing his knowledge to benefit a wider audience.
In his practice, Heath employs a variety of evidence-based treatment methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). He also utilizes a Multimodal Addiction Therapy approach, which incorporates motivational interviewing, a 12-step approach, and relapse prevention strategies. This diverse toolkit allows him to tailor his approach to each client's unique needs and circumstances.
Heath's passion for equipping people to live emotionally healthy lives is evident in his comprehensive range of services. He offers individual, couples, and family counseling, as well as specialized services such as substance use/abuse evaluations for various professionals and industries. As a Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), he also provides evaluations for DOT-covered employees.
