Embracing diversity and championing social justice, Dr. Kenya Ford brings a unique, culturally-sensitive approach to her practice as a post-doctoral fellow at Capital Center for Psychotherapy and Wellness. Her commitment to working with minorities and underserved populations shines through in her LGBTQIA+ and sex worker affirming stance, setting the foundation for a safe and inclusive therapeutic environment.

Dr. Ford's expertise spans a wide range of areas, including trauma, racial identity issues, women's issues, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, peer relations, spirituality, stress, behavioral issues, and LGBTQIA+ matters. Her experience working with individuals aged 3 to 70 showcases her adaptability and comprehensive understanding of life-stage challenges. Dr. Ford also extends her services to couples and families, helping them navigate relational concerns with empathy and insight.

With a strong academic background, Dr. Ford completed her master's degree from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in VA and her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, DC campus. Her dissertation focused on the psychological and cultural factors affecting African Americans' engagement with psychotherapy, demonstrating her commitment to addressing systemic barriers in mental health care.

Dr. Ford's therapeutic approach is integrative, person-centered, and strengths-based, tailoring each session to the specific needs of her clients. She incorporates innovative elements into therapy, such as art, singing, dancing, spirituality, and music, challenging traditional norms to create a more culturally significant and socially just therapeutic experience. This unique blend of traditional and non-traditional techniques allows Dr. Ford to connect with her clients on a deeper level, fostering an environment of growth and healing.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Ford has facilitated groups teaching children social skills and helping adults process the complexities of being a Black person in today's society. Her holistic approach to mental health extends beyond the therapy room, as she practices meditation and yoga, enjoys various forms of artistic expression, and values quality time with family and friends. This rich tapestry of personal interests and professional expertise allows Dr. Ford to bring a well-rounded, empathetic, and culturally attuned perspective to her work, making her a valuable asset to those seeking a therapist who truly understands the intersectionality of identity and mental health.
